Snow Volunteer Training

Introduction

This module is an introduction to how you can assist your community during severe winter weather. It is designed to complement your local authority snow warden training if they run a scheme. You will gain an overview and understanding of the potential roles of a Snow Volunteer to help you plan your communities’ response to severe winter weather.

Learning objectives

By the end of this module you will be able to:

  • Understand the importance of creating a Snow Plan as part of your Community Emergency Plan
  • Know how to integrate your plan with your local authority snow plan
  • Understand basic gritting techniques
  • Have a better understanding of severe weather health and safety

This module is recommended for Community Emergency Volunteer (CEV) groups interested in supporting their community during severe winter weather and looking to build their skills in responding to multiple emergencies. It is also relevant for: community organisations, Town and Parish Councils and those interested or working in community resilience and related sectors.
